Join the Eastern Sierra Water Watchers

This group of passionate volunteers has been monitoring the water of a few creeks here in the Eastern Sierra. They have become citizen scientists and are getting out on the ground with open eyes to join the effort to keep the land and water healthy for wildlife, ourselves, and future generations. After attending the training, volunteers will be prepared to complete a habitat assessment during a streamwalk and conduct sampling of water for the basic parameters- such as dissolved oxygen, total suspended sediment, temperature, pH, and fecal bacteria. A commitment to join the Water Watchers, requires a commitment of about one day every couple months.

Moonlight Magic Century and Metric Century
Lone Pine – Death Valley

Come for the night - stay for the weekend! Start / Finish Location: Dow Villa Motel, 310 S. Main Street in Lone Pine. The starting window is from 4 to 5 pm. This gives riders a chance to enjoy the scenery in the light of day before the sun sets at 8 pm.  We encourage those riders needing more time to complete the course to start as early as possible. For safety reasons, there's a nine hour time limit - so the course will close at 1 am.  All riders must carry lights, and have them on, after dark!! Discovering Wildflowers: Birch Lake Trail

Friends of the Inyo is sponsoring this walk with Steve McLaughlin and Jan Bowers which will be up the Birch Lake Trail to check out what is likely to be a wonderful array of flowers. With the trail starting in the McMurray meadows, we will then move through some areas that were burned several years ago, and then head up towards Birch Lake.

Suggested Equipment: Bring water, lunch, good footwear, and sunscreen. A high clearance vehicle would be excellent. We will meet at 7:30 AM at the campground at the junction of 395 and the Westgard Pass road.

For more information, call the Friends of the Inyo or visit www.friendsoftheinyo.org
